School of the Nations Welcomes Judge Vanessa Cavalieri for Discussions with Families and Students

The visit brought the Nations community together for conversations on digital safety, parenting, mental health, and the protection of children and teenagers.

School of the Nations welcomed Dr. Vanessa Cavalieri, Judge of the Juvenile Court of Rio de Janeiro, for two days of meetings with families and students on August 27 and 28.

During a special session for parents and guardians, Dr. Cavalieri addressed some of the challenges families face in raising children and adolescents in an increasingly digital world. The discussion covered topics such as digital safety, social media, parental supervision of technology use, mental health, warning signs, boundaries, privacy, and parents’ legal responsibilities.

The following day, Dr. Cavalieri met with Middle School and High School students, bringing the conversation directly to young people and addressing issues related to their experiences with technology and social media. During the sessions, she also provided guidance on digital safety, responsible use of online platforms, risk prevention, and responsible behavior in digital environments.

In addition to serving as a Judge of the Juvenile Court of Rio de Janeiro, Dr. Cavalieri is a professor of Children’s and Adolescents’ Rights at the Rio de Janeiro State School of Magistrates (EMERJ) and the National School for the Training and Improvement of Magistrates (ENFAM), Coordinator of the Judicial Center for Conflict Resolution and Citizenship (CEJUSC) for Restorative Justice, and author of the “Eu Te Vejo” Protocol, an initiative focused on preventing school violence.

Her visit reinforced the importance of open dialogue among schools, families, and students in addressing the challenges children and adolescents face today, as well as the shared responsibility of creating safer and more supportive environments for their development.
