Students, families, and staff collaborate at the Jardins Mangueiral Camp, strengthening education through action.

In January 2026, members of the School of the Nations community participated in the Community Camps initiative held in the neighborhood of Jardins Mangueiral. The Community Camps are a regional initiative organized by the Bahá’í Development Institute of the Central West, in collaboration with numerous partners, and take place in different neighborhoods across the Federal District. Through this initiative, students, staff members, and families worked together to support local children and families through educational, recreational, and organizational activities, reinforcing the school’s commitment to learning through service and meaningful social engagement.

Participation in the camp occurred at different stages. Some members of the Nations community were involved in the preparation and organization phase, while others joined throughout the week, contributing their skills in areas such as logistics, academic support, sports and games, workshops, and spiritual classes for young children.

Alignment with the IB Curriculum and the School’s Vision

From an International Baccalaureate (IB) perspective, participation in the Community Camps offered rich and meaningful learning opportunities. Students experienced Service as Action and experiential learning by engaging with authentic social contexts and working collaboratively toward shared goals. Throughout the activities, they developed important Approaches to Learning (ATL) skills, particularly communication, collaboration, and self-management.

The experience also supported the development of key IB Learner Profile attributes, including being caring, principled, and reflective. Students demonstrated initiative, adaptability, and a growing sense of social responsibility—outcomes closely aligned with the school’s emphasis on Moral and Global Citizenship and the IB’s broader educational mission.

Participation included students from Elementary through High School, working alongside staff members and families, which played a significant role in strengthening the learning environment. As an ongoing initiative, the Community Camps continue to provide powerful spaces for learning through service, fostering active citizenship and reinforcing Nations’ commitment to education that extends beyond school walls.
