High School Students Collaborate with Dog Shelter “Eu Amo, Eu Cuido.”

On February 28, 2026, High School students participated in a visit to the “Eu Amo, Eu Cuido” dog shelter in the city of Ocidental–GO. The field trip was organized in the Nations in Action class, dedicated to the area of community service.

The students and teachers had the opportunity to interact not only with the animals but also with the organizers of the shelter, providing them with an experience of the logistics of NGOs and other non-profits. Grade 12 students had previously interacted with the NGO at school when they had a presentation about the service, the shelter, and their challenges. This way, they were also encouraged to interact with the challenges of these organizations and to find solutions to these challenges.    

Alignment with the IB curriculum and the school's vision

As a part of the Nations Profile, students from the School of the Nations are expected to fulfill their formation as Promoters of Justice. In visiting the shelter, they were capable of exerting their function as members of a community that values respect, responsibility, and kindness. Bringing justice to the stories of the animals of the shelter was the most essential part of the field trip, done with the purpose of stimulating the conscientization of the students and other members of the community about the problems of animal abuse. 

The field trip also served as a rich opportunity for learning aligned with the International Baccalaureate (IB) curriculum, helping with the moral formation and the development of global citizenship for the students. The collaboration and communication, also emphasized by the learning system, were fundamental elements of the management aspect of the shelter and of finding out about the place itself.
