High School Students’ Taking Moral Initiative Project Goes Viral

Our students have gone above and beyond expectations. We proudly share this service initiative of three Nations’ High School students that they call "Absorb Kindness."

Currently, our local female prison houses 700 women. Prison administrators shared that often there are not enough personal hygiene products for all. Over half the women, therefore, do not receive sanitary pads. Students heard about this issue and researched social media networks to find testimonials of these women and to learn more about their situation and how they might help.

Ana Beatriz Horta, Gabrielle Lassance and Victoria Dors understood that their Taking Moral Initiative class was the best place to elaborate a project and start real change in their community. With support from the nongovernmental organization, Change Generation, the three students collected 6,720 sanitary pads to give to the women at the prison, Colmeia.

On Wednesday, November 23, the three, accompanied by their Moral Education teacher, Ms. Raquel Campelo, delivered their donations.

Gabriela shared that because of school, she has always been conscious of people’s needs in the community. “If we want a better society, we need to invest a lot in caring, love and generosity.”

This initiative reached media channels in Brasilia causing positive surprise among readers.

The project is currently in phase 2, as the students gather other personal hygiene products. The aim is to move phase three, which involves collecting clothes for newborns who live in prison with their mothers.

We are so proud of Ana Beatriz, Gabriela and Victoria for their having such a positive impact on their community. We are #proudtobenations.
