Nations’ Students Take Part in Earth Day Art Contest Sponsored by the U.S. Embassy

To commemorate Earth Day on April 22, the U.S. Embassy sponsored a contest for students from U.S. aligned schools. From among 600 entries, School of the Nations took all of 6 top prizes.

There were three divisions by age, each with its own themes for the Earth Day 2016 Art Contest. “Nations’ artwork was on display throughout the embassy lobby and conference rooms for a week, and comments received from embassy staff and visitors were tremendous and positive,” said an embassy representative.

Division 1 - Children up to Grade 4

Theme: “The environment is where we all meet; where all have a mutual interest; it is the one thing all of us share.” — Lady Bird Johnson

Division 2 - Grades 5 to 8

Theme: “A nation that destroys its soils destroys itself. Forests are the lungs of our land, purifying the air and giving fresh strength to our people. ” ― Franklin D. Roosevelt

Division 3 - Grades 9 to 12

Theme: “Conservation is a state of harmony between men and land.” – Aldo Leopold

In the first division, Goodness Odey (G3) and Miguel Damasio (G4) won prizes. Gladys Silva (G5) and Giovanna Basso (G8) were among the top 3 in the second division. Ana Carolina Turhan (G10) represented our High School classifying in the top 3 of division 3.

Congratulations to students and their art teachers. We must continually help students develop their talents and creativity. Winners will have their artwork framed and displayed at the embassy. They won notepads and a certificate signed by the ambassador. Go Nations!
