Creating a better world through education

Imagine a worldwide community of schools, educators and students with a shared mission to empower young people with the values, knowledge and skills to create a better and more peaceful world. This is the International Baccalaureate (IB).

IB programmes aim to provide an education that enables students to make sense of the complexities of the world around them, as well as equipping them with the skills and dispositions needed for taking responsible action for the future. They provide an education that crosses disciplinary, cultural, national and geographical boundaries, and that champions critical engagement, stimulating ideas and meaningful relationships.

Program of Inquiry

The Program of Inquiry (POI) at our school, as part of the Primary Years Programme (PYP), serves as a comprehensive, transdisciplinary framework designed to engage students in meaningful learning experiences that extend beyond traditional subject boundaries. This program is specially tailored to reflect the unique characteristics and needs of our school community and is structured around six transdisciplinary themes:

  • Who We Are

  • Where We Are in Place and Time

  • How We Express Ourselves

  • How the World Works

  • How We Organize Ourselves

  • Sharing the Planet

These themes guide the development of units of inquiry that encourage students to integrate and apply their knowledge, skills, and personal attributes to real-world contexts, fostering a deeper understanding of the world and their role within it.

The POI promotes a balanced approach to education, blending subject-specific knowledge with broader concepts that have global relevance and application. It supports continuous learning and conceptual development through carefully articulated units that build upon each other year after year. Our program emphasizes academic growth and personal development, nurturing attributes such as inquiry, reflection, and service - the capacity to take meaningful action. Through the POI, students are equipped to explore complex issues and ideas, contributing to their growth as internationally-minded individuals who understand and appreciate the interconnectedness of all things.
